Estate agents pedal their way to £1200 for charity

Estate agents tackle Trans Pennine Trail

Four local estate agents from Gascoigne Halman braved one of this summer’s hottest days so far, in order to complete their very own version of the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT) earlier this month. The team who were inspired by this year’s Le Tour De France managed to raise over £1200 in sponsorship. They chose four charities to receive a share of the money including local charity The East Cheshire Hospice based in Macclesfield.

Keen to complete their cycle in just one day, James Coppock and Nathan Fitzpatrick planned a condensed version of the TPT, on which they were joined by Richard Leece who acted as the official paceman and Gascoigne Halman surveyor John Martin. The 60 mile challenge began at Southport Pier, passing by all the Gascoigne Halman offices before finally finishing in Didsbury.

Despite a late start and temperatures which reached up to 29 degrees, the team made it back to Didsbury just in time for closing. James commented, “We started off a little later than we planned which meant we had added pressure to complete the TPT in just 7 hours instead of 8. From Southport beach we passed through a mix of picturesque countryside, railways and canal towpaths before reaching Manchester Ship Canal. Carrying on through the scorching heat we headed next to Stockton Heath, passing through Lymm, Dunham Massey, Altrincham, Sale Waterpark and Chorlton before screeching to the doors of the Didsbury office bang on 5:30pm, phew!

“I’m really pleased that we managed to achieve what we set out to do, we all had a fantastic day and are extremely proud to have raised such a significant amount money for East Cheshire Hospice. Our Just Giving Page is still available if anyone would like to make a donation, you can find it at: https://www.justgiving.com/James-Coppock.”

East Cheshire Hospice care for people suffering from life limiting illnesses as well as their families and carers, across Buxton, Congleton, High Legh, High Peak, Knutsford, Macclesfield, Poynton, Wilmslow and everywhere else in between. Gascoigne Halman have chosen to raise money for three local hospices this year, East Cheshire Hospice, St Ann’s Hospice and St Rocco’s Hospice.

Staff from Gascoigne Halman recently turned bakers for the day in order to raise as much money as possible for their three charities of the year, East Cheshire Hospice, St Ann’s Hospice and St Rocco’s Hospice and local charity, Blythe House Hospice. The company wide Bakethon, which involved 17 of Gascoigne Halman’s offices, brought in a staggering total of £3340.55.

The Bakethon saw staff baking cakes, cookies and muffins and selling them to prospective home buyers and sellers, in fact anyone passing by their offices.

Gascoigne Halman’s first ever Bakethon took place two years ago and raised over £2,000 for The Christie and everyone is delighted that this year’s event managed to raise even more money for local hospices.

Commenting on the Bakethon, John Halman said, “Once again everyone at Gascoigne Halman has made such a fantastic effort by baking a delicious selection of home-made treats, even those who couldn’t bake got stuck in! We’ve raised a phenomenal amount and I know that the teams at all of the local hospices are thrilled with our efforts.”

The Bakethon is part of a year long fundraising effort by the staff at Gascoigne Halman to support St Ann’s Hospice, East Cheshire Hospice and St Rocco’s Hospice. All three hospices are based locally and they help care and support local individuals and their families who are affected by cancer and other life limiting illnesses.

Due to demand Gascoigne Halman launches 2nd property seminar this Thursday (22nd May)

Following on from the success of Gascoigne Halman’s first ever Landlord and Investment Seminar in March, which came about as a result of the rise in the number of new enquiries into the local buy-to-let market, the company will be hosting another next month. The free event will provide potential and existing landlords with sound advice about how best to approach the lettings market and get the most out of being a landlord.

Organiser Philip Chadwick commented, “South Manchester has many desirable locations, so it’s no surprise that the lettings market is strong in the area. We are continuing to see significant interest from individuals who are new to the buy to let market as well as exiting landlords who are looking to expand their portfolio. Add to this the fact that many people are still unable to get on to the property ladder and recent news that interest rates will continue to remain low until the end of 2015, I expect rental demand to steadily increase.

“The Landlord and Investment Seminar is suitable for anyone who is interested in going down the lettings route, whether you have gathered together a portfolio of properties, are capitalising on the booming buy to let market or may have inherited a property, we hope that it will provide landlords with a better understanding about how the lettings market works and tips on how to become a successful landlord.”

The event will be held on Thursday 22nd May at the Cottons Hotel in Knutsford and will run from 6-8pm. Key speakers will include Nigel Davenport from Baker Tilly Tax and Accounting Limited, Steve Hewitt from Aldermore Mortgages, Megan Duncan from Chafes Solicitors LLP and Gascoigne Halman’s Lettings Director, Philip Chadwick. Topics discussed on the evening will include ‘Buy-to-let mortgages’, ‘Tax advice’, ‘The local sales market’ and ‘What makes a good buy-to-let’. There will also be the opportunity to raise any questions with the experts at a Q&A session at the end of the event.

Although the Lettings and Investor Seminar is free to attend, places are limited and are offered on a first-come, first served basis.

Gascoigne Halman turn bakers for the day

P1050030

On Friday the 31st May, the team at the Knutsford office of estate agent Gascoigne Halman donned their aprons to produce a delicious selection of cakes, cookies and muffins for a charity Bakethon in aid of local charity, the Alternative Futures Group.

The goodies were sold from a brightly decorated stall outside the office on Princess Street to prospective home buyers and sellers, as well as other shoppers in the town centre, and raised a tasty £320.

The Alternative Futures Group is a charity providing person centred support to adults with learning disabilities and is a cause close to the hearts of some of the staff at Gascoigne Halman’s Knutsford office.  The funds raised will be of particular benefit to the charity’s supported housing facility in Knutsford which allows vulnerable adults to lead exciting, fulfilled lives as part of the local community.

The Bakethon is the first of a series of fundraising events for the Alternative Futures Group being planned by Gascoigne Halman staff in Knutsford, with future suggestions including abseiling down a local Knutsford landmark, kayaking and white water rafting.
